Sacred Places

A Sacred Geography • Lives • Memory • Presence

The Sharanas lived, walked, spoke and realized in places that still belong to the landscape today. Here, their lives return to geography.

The lives of the Sharanas did not unfold in an imagined world. Their journeys moved through towns, temples, rivers and landscapes that can still be encountered.

SACRED GEOGRAPHY

Where the Sharanas walked

This is not a catalogue of monuments. It is a brief pilgrimage through a landscape of memory— places associated with gathering, awakening, devotion, service and realization.

At the Meeting of the Rivers

At the confluence of the Krishna and Malaprabha, the landscape itself becomes part of Basavanna's memory. The Aikya Mantapa and Sangameshwara Temple continue to make this one of the tradition's most resonant pilgrimage places.

These places are more than points on a map. They allow the lives of the Sharanas to return to earth—to river, stone, town and shrine—and remind us that a living tradition is carried not only through words, but through places remembered and revisited.
